- Physical rest. Can be passive (sleeping or napping) or active (yoga, stretching, massage therapy - restorative activity)
- Mental rest (taking breaks during work, jotting down thoughts or journaling)
- Sensory rest (breaks from bright lights, computer screens, background noise). Rises from overstimulation. Very difficult nowadays because of sensory overload through social media. Unplug from electronics. Close eyes for a couple seconds. For me personally, going to the Buddhist Shrine room is the most powerful form of sensory rest.
- Creative rest (basically, inspiration hunting)
- Emotional rest. Having time to truly express your feelings and cut back on “people pleasing”
- Social rest deficit - this causes the need for emotional rest. Stems from we fail to differentiate what relationships energize vs. drain us. Surround yourself with people who feel supportive.
- Spiritual rest. The ability for oneself to connect & feel a deeper sense of belonging. Community-maxxing!
